Northwest Michigan Works! and NMC Extended Education Offer Career Series

Northwest Michigan Works! is partnering with Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) Extended Education to present a series of classes to help job seekers recognize their skills, explore careers, and improve their job search skills. The Career Series will feature five classes held once a week, September 13 through October 11, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Northwest Michigan Works!, 1209 S. Garfield in Traverse City. Participants can sign up for any or all of the classes and there is no charge to attend.

The first class on September 13 is titled "Find Your Skills & Strengths." The class will provide online and written tools for self-assessment and discovery. Participants will explore occupations and education that leads to different careers.

Dates for the other classes will be:

September 20 – Career Exploration - Design Your Life. Discover what might be possible in your life! Using principles from the NY Times bestseller “Designing Your Life” by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans, design three possible satisfying and meaningful lives for yourself.

September 27 – How to Search for Jobs. Learn how to search for jobs using a variety of resources. Learn how to upload a resume and cover letter.

October 4 – Resume & Cover Letter Assistance. Identify your soft skills, how to deal with employment gaps, resume and cover letter templates.

October 11 – Meet & Greet Northwest Michigan Works! and NMC Educational Staff. This will be an informal gathering of a wealth of community resources including NMC admissions, Extended Ed and Micro-credentialing program; and Northwest Michigan Works! career advising for adults and youth, career readiness, and business service representative. Light refreshments will be served.
