National Apprenticeship Week Virtual Information Sessions Focus on Opportunities for Students

Students and their families are invited to attend a registered apprenticeship virtual information session during National Apprenticeship Week. Guests may choose to attend any of the three discussions hosted by Northwest Michigan Works! November 9, 11, or 12. The sessions will be hosted virtually using the Google Meet platform and will run for approximately one hour.

The sessions will include information about what an apprenticeship is, where to look for an apprenticeship, and an employer panel sharing how their apprenticeship impacts their teams. “Students and parents will learn what is involved in a registered apprenticeship, how to prepare for a career in the professional trades, and what is required for apprentices to achieve a National Credential. It’s a wonderful opportunity for families to gain additional career pathway knowledge and understand how apprenticeships work,” said Evelyn Szpliet, Manager of Apprenticeships and Business Resource Networks for Northwest Michigan Works!

The dates and times for the information sessions are:

Precision Plumbing, Plumbing & HVAC, November 9, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm.

Kalkaska Memorial Healthcare Center, Healthcare, November 11, 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm.

Boyne Resorts, Culinary, November 12, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm.

Registration is required and a link will be emailed to those students and families interested in joining the online discussion. Guests may register by emailing Evelyn.Szpliet@NetworksNorthwest.org.

Guests may choose to attend any single session or all three events if they would prefer. The information sessions will be recorded and viewable on the Northwest Michigan Works! website, nwm.org/apprenticeships.

Registered apprenticeships are offered through the U.S. Department of Labor and are a proven training method for employers to build a talent pipeline of highly skilled, educated employees. Northwest Michigan Works! provides technical assistance and administrative support for registered apprenticeships, including development and implementation guidance.
