This is an ongoing process, with each document moving through review and adoption by the TTCI Policy Board before being submitted to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) for final approval (see anticipated approval dates below).

Planning Documents and Processes
The Traverse Transportation Coordinating Initiative (TTCI) is currently developing three transportation planning documents:
-
The Unified Work Program (UWP) outlines the transportation planning tasks and activities that TTCI will undertake over the next year to support regional mobility and infrastructure planning (Reviewed and revised every year)
-
The Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), which outlines planned transportation projects for the next three to four years (Reviewed and revised every three years)
-
The Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), a long-term vision for the region’s transportation system (Reviewed and revised avery five years; looks at 20+ year horizon).
-
Draft comming soon*
-
In accordance with MDOT requirements, the initial MTP must be adopted before July 1, 2025, to meet federally established timelines for the newly designated MPO. While this schedule allows less time than is typically preferred for comprehensive long-range planning, additional efforts will begin in the late 2025 to early 2026 timeframe following the initial adoption of the plan. Over the next 4+ years, planning activities will include continued opportunities for public input and will focus on key topics such as traffic and safety, complete transportation networks, non-motorized options, smart transportation technology, and system resilience. Any resulting plans will be amended into the current plan or adopted seperatly upon completion and incorporated into the next MTP revision.
-
*As draft versions of these plans are completed, updates will be shared on this website.
MDOT Statewide Plans
In addition to TTCI's planning effrots, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is also seeking comments on the project lists in the draft fiscal year 2026-2029 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).
Our Township greatly benefits from Network Northwest's experience, depth of knowledge and understanding. Because they work with so many diverse communities in our ten-county region they understand the local land-use issues and are already working on solutions by the time we realize we need some help.
