Elective Pay for Tax-Exempt Entities

Networks Northwest, with support from the Michigan Infrastructure Office's Technical Assistance Center (MIO TAC), is serving as a regional Ambassador for the Elective Pay Tax Credit Program!  If you represent a tax-exempt organization in northwest Michigan that has recently installed/purchased certain clean energy technologies, or plan to in the near future, you may be eligible for a tax credit from the IRS!  Networks Northwest & MIO TAC can answer eligibility questions and help your organization apply for those tax credits.  Contact your Elective Pay Ambassador, Stephanie Marchbanks at stephanie.marchbanks@networksnorthwest.org.

Join Groundwork Center for Resilient Communities and Networks Northwest on 2/26/2026 for a free, informative webinar to de-mystify this new opportunity. We’ll break down the essentials to help your organization understand if and how you can benefit.  In this session, you will learn:

  • What Direct Pay is: How this new mechanism works as a direct payment from the IRS.

  • Who qualifies: Clarification on eligible entities, including non-profits, local governments, tribal governments, school districts, houses of worship, and rural electric co-ops.

  • What projects are eligible: An overview of qualifying clean energy technologies and investments under the Inflation Reduction Act.

  • How to apply: A clear overview of the pre-filing and filing process, timelines, and key requirements

  • Where to find help: The Michigan Infrastructure Office Technical Assistance Center’s (MIO TAC) Elective Pay Ambassadors can assist you with project evaluation and tax credit pre-filing.

This webinar is designed for leaders, board members, facility managers, and sustainability staff from Michigan's non-profits, local governments, public schools, tribal nations, houses of worship, and electric cooperatives. Whether you have a specific project or are just beginning to explore options, this session will provide the foundational knowledge to take the next step.

The Networks Northwest team did a great job to help the City of Charlevoix and Charlevoix Township collaborate in addressing housing challenges in our community. They facilitated dialogue with Planning Commissioners, community stakeholders, and municipal officials to develop a plan for cohesive zoning in areas of growth for our two governments. Further, they were able to pinpoint the challenges in each unit and propose changes that would be beneficial all around. Together, we believe we'll be better prepared for housing developments and job growth in our region. We look forward to working with them on future projects!
- Mark Haydlauff, City Manager, Charlevoix
