Northwest Michigan Council of Governments Recognizes Homestead Township’s Energy Efficiency Efforts
NORTHWEST MI—The Northwest Michigan Council of Governments (NWMCOG) recognized Homestead Township for its energy efficiency initiatives at the township board’s December meeting.
NWMCOG presented the township board members with a plaque honoring the work they have done to save taxpayer dollars and reduce energy consumption.
A grant to NWMCOG from the Michigan Public Service Commission supported the efficiency upgrades. The grant provided the township with funding for an analysis and improvements, including lighting upgrades with occupancy sensors, insulation additions, heating improvements and window replacements. The NWMCOG expects the upgrades to save the township nearly $3,000 per year on utility costs.
The grant program, managed by the NWMCOG, made similar investments to 20 local governments across the 10-county region it serves.
