TRAVERSE CITY, MI — Northwest Education Services Adult Education program will celebrate the accomplishments of 49 adult learners during a graduation ceremony on Wednesday, June 10, at 7:00 p.m. in Milliken Auditorium in Traverse City.
The ceremony will honor eleven students earning their high school diplomas and thirty-eight students who have successfully completed the GED and earned their High School Equivalency (HSE) certificates. Through inspiring speeches, four graduates will reflect on the obstacles they faced and the resilience that carried them to this milestone.
In addition to recognizing graduates, the event will include the induction of eight students into the prestigious National Adult Education Honor Society (NAEHS). Honorees are selected by their instructors based on exemplary attendance, positive and cooperative attitudes, and consistent effort and initiative in their studies. Membership in the NAEHS is a lifelong honor awarded to a select group of students who demonstrate these qualities throughout their educational journey.
“The accomplishments of this year’s graduates reflect tremendous perseverance, determination, and commitment. Many balanced work, family responsibilities, and personal challenges while pursuing their education. Their success represents not only the completion of an academic goal, but also the opening of new opportunities for careers, continued education, and personal growth,” remarked Christy Nelson, Regional Director of Adult Education for Northwest Michigan Works!
The Northwest Education Services Adult Education program plays a vital role in preparing adult learners—many of whom are already active members of our communities—for success in today’s workforce. Through a partnership between Northwest Education Services, Networks Northwest, and Northwest Michigan Works!, the program operates six Learning Labs throughout Northwest Michigan. These labs offer year-round instruction with flexible daytime and evening hours, allowing learners to enroll at any time and progress at their own pace.
Community members, family, and friends are invited to attend and celebrate the achievements of this year’s graduates.

The Networks Northwest team did a great job to help the City of Charlevoix and Charlevoix Township collaborate in addressing housing challenges in our community. They facilitated dialogue with Planning Commissioners, community stakeholders, and municipal officials to develop a plan for cohesive zoning in areas of growth for our two governments. Further, they were able to pinpoint the challenges in each unit and propose changes that would be beneficial all around. Together, we believe we'll be better prepared for housing developments and job growth in our region. We look forward to working with them on future projects!
