TBA Career Tech Center Student Attends National Leadership Academy

TRAVERSE CITY, MI –A Traverse Bay Area ISD Career-Tech Center student participated in the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) National Student Leadership Academy November 10-12 in Washington D.C. Ryan Memberto, who is from Suttons Bay, was one of just two students from northern Michigan to attend the National Student Leadership Academy which attracted nearly 700 students from around the country. Memberto is a senior in the Tech Center’s Automotive Technology program which is in its first year of participating in the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) program, a statewide affiliate of the JAG program.

While he was in Washington, Memberto participated in a variety of leadership sessions, had the opportunity to network with students from other states, and attended the Leadership Awards Luncheon which included keynote speeches by the Governors of Louisiana and Mississippi. Membertowas also part of a JAG group photo at the U.S. Capitol, toured the U.S. Monuments, visited Arlington National Cemetery, and spent an afternoon at the Smithsonian Museums. Memberto was joined on the trip by Northwest Michigan Works! Operations Manager, Kathy Taylor, and Youth Career Technical Education Placement Advisor, LeAnne Bush.

The statewide Jobs for Michigan's Graduates program helps Michigan's young adults graduate and make successful transitions to postsecondary education or meaningful employment. Northwest Michigan Works! coordinates JMG programs at the Traverse Bay Area ISD Career-Tech Center and the Wexford-Missaukee Career Tech Center.

Our Township greatly benefits from Network Northwest's experience, depth of knowledge and understanding. Because they work with so many diverse communities in our ten-county region they understand the local land-use issues and are already working on solutions by the time we realize we need some help.
