Career Tech Center Students Win Award At Statewide Career Conference

CADILLAC, MI –A team of students from the Wexford-Missaukee Career Tech Center brought home top honors from the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) Career Development Conference held April 20 in Lansing. The team of Olivia Emond, Olivia Woods, and Mercedez Hesling won first place in the Product Marketing competition at the conference. Emond, from Lake City and Hesling, from Cadillac, are both juniors in the Hospitality, Retailing and Entrepreneurship program. Woods, from Pine River, is a senior in the Agriscience program.

Over 200 students from around the state took part in the Career Development Conference. Along with competing, the students had the opportunity to network with other JMG students and hear a keynote presentation by Byron Garrett, the Chairman of the National Family Engagement Alliance. The Wexford-Missaukee CTC students also got to meet with Representative Larry Inman and Senator Darwin Booher. The students were joined on the trip by Wexford-Missaukee Youth Career Technical Education Placement Advisor, LeAnne Bush.

The statewide Jobs for Michigan's Graduates program helps Michigan's young adults graduate and make successful transitions to postsecondary education or meaningful employment. Northwest Michigan Works! coordinates JMG programs at the Wexford-Missaukee Career Tech Center, the Char-Em ISD, and the Traverse Bay Area ISD Career-Tech Center.
