Starting a Business Workshop - Petoskey

The Starting a Business Workshop is intended for individuals in the beginning stages of starting a business, in need of accessing capital, or simply considering self-employment. Delivered in a workshop format, this introductory session helps aspiring entrepreneurs assess their abilities to lead and manage a company, as well as evaluate market and sales potential for their products/services. Start-up costs, financing options, and business planning are introduced, along with necessary steps to getting started. This workshop is held in partnership with North Central Michigan College, features instruction by SBDC Business Consultant Kathleen Bagley, and is a pre-requisite to meeting with a SBDC consultant one-on-one. Know Your Numbers: Using Your Financial Statements to Better Manage Your Business, Workshop - Manistee

This workshop is intended for small business owners and key staff who want to have a better understanding of how to use their financial statements to better manage their businesses. The ideal participant for Know Your Numbers will have 2-3 years of financial history and be pursuing financing or having challenges with cash flow. Topics include how to: • Identify opportunities and challenges with your balance sheet & income statement • Apply break even analysis to improve decision-making • Understand and plan the working capital to support your growth • Discuss proven ways to increase your company’s cash flow • Strengthen the partnership with your lender Registration begins at 8:30 AM. Refreshments will be provided. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. $25.00 fee includes workbook. Understanding University of Michigan, Economic Growth Institute, Business Assistance Programs- Chew On This Web Seminar

This 1 hr webinar will provide an overview of the UMich’s business assistance programs at the Economic Growth Institute —Defense Manufacturing Assistance Program, Great Lakes Trade Adjustment Assistance Center, Small Company Innovation Program, and First Customer Program. It will describe the services provided by the Economic Growth Institute and why you may want to participate in one or more of the programs, how to participate, and how to take advantage of co-funded core strengthening or diversification projects of up to $100,000 to assist your firm remain competitive. Co-funded projects to increase your government sales and strengthen your core business while preparing to diversify into the commercial sector can include but are not limited to website redesign for GSA sales, work with a government business development consultant, attaining new certifications to qualify for defense aerospace work, and technology transfer projects to develop products that solve DoD equipment and vehicle problems. The Starting a Business workshop is intended for individuals in the beginning stages of starting a business, in need of accessing capital, or simply considering self-employment. Delivered in a workshop format, this introductory session helps aspiring entrepreneurs assess their abilities to lead and manage a company, as well as evaluate market and sales potential for their products/services. This comprehensive 2.5 hour workshop also incorporates the SBDC’s fundamental Writing a Business Plan workshop and fully covers topics such as determining concept feasibility, startup costs, financing options, the basics of business planning, along with other necessary resources to launch. The workshop features instruction by SBDC Regional Director and Small Business Consultant, Annie Olds, and is held in partnership with Northwestern Michigan College. The workshop is a pre-requisite to meeting with a SBDC consultant one-on-one. The workshop is being held at the Parsons-Stulen building on NMC’s Aero Park Campus, 2600 Aero Park Drive, Traverse City, MI 49686. There is no fee but pre-registration is required.
