Summer Young Professionals Complete Welding Program

August 8, 2022

Students in the Summer Young Professionals Welding Program in Cadillac have finished their seven week welding course and have earned credentials. The program was offered through a partnership between Northwest Michigan Works! and the Wexford-Missaukee Career Technical Center. Most of the students will be moving on to pursue welding careers. The others will be finishing high school before they pick up where they left off with their welding credentials.

The Young Professionals initiative is designed to reduce youth unemployment and place young adults, ages 14-24, on the right path to achieve lifelong economic self-sufficiency. The initiative supports young adults who are struggling to obtain employment by exposing them to multiple career and educational opportunities, such as entering a Registered Apprenticeship program, earning a college degree or certificate, and obtaining sustainable employment.

In addition to the program at the Wexford-Missaukee Career Tech Center, Northwest Michigan Works! also coordinates young professionals programs at the Char-Em ISD and Northwest Education Services.

The Networks Northwest team did a great job to help the City of Charlevoix and Charlevoix Township collaborate in addressing housing challenges in our community. They facilitated dialogue with Planning Commissioners, community stakeholders, and municipal officials to develop a plan for cohesive zoning in areas of growth for our two governments. Further, they were able to pinpoint the challenges in each unit and propose changes that would be beneficial all around. Together, we believe we'll be better prepared for housing developments and job growth in our region. We look forward to working with them on future projects!
