Standing Ovation Award Winner Always Makes Positive First Impression

Northwest Michigan Works! Employment Services Assistant, Jim Sterk, has received the Networks Northwest Standing Ovation Award for 2019. Sterk was recognized for being an exceptional individual who lives and practices Networks Northwest’s core values, day in and day out. Networks Northwest CEO, Matt McCauley, presented the award at the organization’s annual All Staff Meeting.

Jim is usually the first point of contact for people who visit the Northwest Michigan Works! American Job Center in Traverse City. McCauley credited Jim for always making a positive first impression on customers and anyone else who comes to the Center.

“This year it’s great to recognize Jim for all he does,” said McCauley. “He’s always right there with a smile and a warm welcome for everyone who comes through our doors.”

Jim said he was “stunned and humbled” to receive the recognition. He has worked for Northwest Michigan Works! in Traverse City since 2010. Congratulations, Jim, on your Standing Ovation Award!

In addition to the annual Standing Ovation Award, Networks Northwest also presents quarterly Values in Action Awards that spotlight employees who exemplify the organization’s Core Values of excellence, integrity, empowerment, innovation, optimism, collaboration, and/or celebration.

The Networks Northwest team did a great job to help the City of Charlevoix and Charlevoix Township collaborate in addressing housing challenges in our community. They facilitated dialogue with Planning Commissioners, community stakeholders, and municipal officials to develop a plan for cohesive zoning in areas of growth for our two governments. Further, they were able to pinpoint the challenges in each unit and propose changes that would be beneficial all around. Together, we believe we'll be better prepared for housing developments and job growth in our region. We look forward to working with them on future projects!
