More Than 140 Turn Out For IT Career and Job Fair
Over 140 people looking for Information Technology jobs or information about careers in that field turned out for the Northwest Michigan Works! IT Career and Job Fair in Traverse City. The event featured 14 local employers who were recruiting candidates for open positions that included network administration, web development, tech support, and database administration.
"Having them all in one place is really nice," said Jeremy Berger, a Job Fair participant. "I can just go from one spot to the next and get different feels for different companies."
"It's pretty cool to have everything in one room and to be able to talk to the owners of the companies," said James Sevener, a Job Fair participant.
Representatives from Northwestern Michigan College and Ferris State University were at the event to provide information about the education and training available for people interested in IT careers. Michigan Works! staff members were also there to talk about the ways they can help jobseekers.
By the time participants left the Job Fair they had the opportunity to meet face to face with multiple employers and even if they didn't get an immediate job offer they did get to find out what skills and certifications are needed for IT careers.
"So far I've learned a few things, a few specific certifications I need to go for next," said Berger.
"The people were very forward on what they were looking for, so right away you knew if that was something you could do or couldn't do," said James Bley, a Job Fair participant. "It was pretty informative."

The Networks Northwest team did a great job to help the City of Charlevoix and Charlevoix Township collaborate in addressing housing challenges in our community. They facilitated dialogue with Planning Commissioners, community stakeholders, and municipal officials to develop a plan for cohesive zoning in areas of growth for our two governments. Further, they were able to pinpoint the challenges in each unit and propose changes that would be beneficial all around. Together, we believe we'll be better prepared for housing developments and job growth in our region. We look forward to working with them on future projects!
