Michigan Works Helps Job Seeker Move From Seasonal to Permanent Employment
Anna Doss spent years working seasonal jobs in the food service industry but kept getting laid off and was looking for year-round employment when she came to Northwest Michigan Works! in Manistee. Her age (72) made it difficult for her to find a job. The staff at Michigan Works! provided Doss with case management services and helped her create a professional résumé that was delivered to local employers by a Business Liaison. Doss was referred to a local bakery, interviewed for an open position and landed the job. She also learned about a job as a Bus Aid for the Manistee Intermediate School District and began working there.
“You helped me in every way you could possibly help me,” said Doss. “I enjoyed coming to Michigan Works, I felt comfortable and everyone treated me well.”
The Networks Northwest team did a great job to help the City of Charlevoix and Charlevoix Township collaborate in addressing housing challenges in our community. They facilitated dialogue with Planning Commissioners, community stakeholders, and municipal officials to develop a plan for cohesive zoning in areas of growth for our two governments. Further, they were able to pinpoint the challenges in each unit and propose changes that would be beneficial all around. Together, we believe we'll be better prepared for housing developments and job growth in our region. We look forward to working with them on future projects!
