Manufacturing Continues to Lead Economic Recovery According to State Data
The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget has published the Wage & Salary Employment data for the first quarter of 2012. This is a data series tracking jobs covered by the Unemployment Insurance program. The updated data for the northwest lower Michigan region and its labor markets is available on our website at http://www.nwmcog.org/employment.html (look for the "Updated" flag).
The following table shows that manufacturing employment growth out-paced other industries from the first quarter of 2010 to the first quarter of 2012, and continued to lead the local economic recovery into the first quarter of 2012. For that time period, manufacturing was the third largest industry in the region, based on employment.
The Networks Northwest team did a great job to help the City of Charlevoix and Charlevoix Township collaborate in addressing housing challenges in our community. They facilitated dialogue with Planning Commissioners, community stakeholders, and municipal officials to develop a plan for cohesive zoning in areas of growth for our two governments. Further, they were able to pinpoint the challenges in each unit and propose changes that would be beneficial all around. Together, we believe we'll be better prepared for housing developments and job growth in our region. We look forward to working with them on future projects!
