Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates Students Tour Industrial Arts Institute
Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) students in the Char-Em ISD’s Welding Program at East Jordan had the opportunity go on Talent Tours at Moran Iron Works and the Industrial Arts Institute in Onaway. Along with touring both facilities, the 14 students were able to bring their welding gear and participate in demonstrations with the staff at the Industrial Arts Institute.
Moran Iron Works is a national leader in custom steel fabrication, specializing in one-of-a-kind fabrication and conversion. The Industrial Arts Institute offers premier comprehensive trade programs that prepare students for skilled trades careers.
JMG is a statewide initiative to help increase graduation rates and also help students make a successful transition into post-secondary education and/or employment opportunities. JMG offers mentoring, job readiness and leadership development skills, and work experience to high school students.
Northwest Michigan Works! and the Char-Em ISD Career and Technical Education Program are partnering to provide the Job’s for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) program to students in Char-Em’s welding program at East Jordan and Pellston.
Along with the partnership with the Char-Em ISD, Northwest Michigan Works also coordinates JMG programs at the Traverse Bay Area ISD Career Tech Center and the Wexford-Missaukee ISD Career Tech Center.
The Networks Northwest team did a great job to help the City of Charlevoix and Charlevoix Township collaborate in addressing housing challenges in our community. They facilitated dialogue with Planning Commissioners, community stakeholders, and municipal officials to develop a plan for cohesive zoning in areas of growth for our two governments. Further, they were able to pinpoint the challenges in each unit and propose changes that would be beneficial all around. Together, we believe we'll be better prepared for housing developments and job growth in our region. We look forward to working with them on future projects!
