Hiring Fair Seeks Area Veterans

Area veterans looking to land their first job after their military experience or looking to get a better job, are encouraged to attend the Jobs For Vets Hiring Fair, Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the Traverse City Hagerty Center.
Over 50 businesses with nearly 100 job categories are expected to be on hand. They will be prepared to talk with Veterans and many could be ready to set up interviews on-the-spot.
“We have asked businesses to only attend if they have jobs available for Veterans,” says Scott Herzberg of the NMC Military and Veteran Services. Herzberg says they value all employers that show support for Veterans, but this is
a showcase for those who have actual jobs or expect to have jobs in the near future.
Michigan Works! will assist Veterans if they need help to brush up their resume or job-hunting skills. A variety of Veteran support groups will also be set up, including the Veteran’s Administration and Disabled American Veterans.
“Our Veterans come equipped with a wide variety of skills and a strong work ethic,” says Herzberg. “What they need to learn is how some of those skills translate to benefits for civilian jobs.”
The Jobs For Vets Hiring Fair will take place from noon until 3 p.m. at the NMC Hagerty Center. Veterans are encouraged to register at JobsForVetsMI.com, but any Veterans can just walk-in on the day of the event. The number of
businesses with available jobs is at capacity for the event, but businesses with additional jobs are encouraged to contact Michigan Works! before the Hiring Fair.
