Healthcare Career and Job Fair Connects Employers and Job Seekers

Xander McPherson is a certified IT technician and would like to work in the healthcare field. That is why he attended a Healthcare Career and Job Fair at North Central Michigan College in Petoskey.

"I've been told they're always looking for help in the tech field in the health field because so much of our health care is done through technology," said McPherson.

The Healthcare Career and Job Fair was hosted by Northwest Michigan Works! in partnership with Grandvue Medical Care Facility and North Central Michigan College.

A dozen local healthcare employers were at the event accepting applications and conducting interviews. Representatives from colleges and other training providers were also at the event to provide information about healthcare education and training programs. That is what attracted Kari Blair to the event.

"I'm hoping to further my career and I really want to try to go back to college," said Blair. "I really want to advance in schooling and become an OB/GYN."

Besides giving job seekers a chance to apply for jobs and learn about training programs the Career and Job Fair also gave employers and opportunity to meet face to face with many potential employees.

"I think it's really important for face to face interaction because everything's going through the web and people aren't feeling as much of a connection to the employer," said Margie Kessler from McLaren Northern Michigan.

"It's a way to get your foot in the door and put a name with the face," said McPherson.

"It was an awesome experience," said Blair. "I got all the answers I really wanted to get. I'm so excited that I came."
