Certified Nurse Aide Program Grads Meet Potential Employers at Job Fair

Recent graduates of Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) training programs at Northwestern Michigan College and Baker College of Cadillac had an opportunity to meet with potential employers at a job fair in Traverse City. The event was put on by the Northwest Michigan Healthcare Skills Alliance in collaboration with Northwest Michigan Works! Watch the video to learn more about the CNA job fair.

 

 

 

 

 

Recent graduates of the Certified Nurse Aide or CNA programs at Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) and Baker College of Cadillac, had an opportunity to meet potential employers at a reverse job fair in Traverse City. The event was hosted by the Healthcare Skills Alliance of Northwest Michigan in collaboration with Northwest Michigan Works! The reverse job fair was designed to give a relatively small group of CNA program graduates a chance to meet face to face with local healthcare providers who employ CNAs.

"It was really helpful because a lot of places only take online applications," said Trinette Dean, a recent graduate of the CNA training program at NMC. "Having them all here in one room made it a lot easier."

"The face to face aspect is real important," said Leslie Etienne, the Grand Traverse Pavilions employee benefits manager. "It's great for them to get to meet us and for us to see them."

Trinette Dean was one of the recent CNA program grads who took advantage of the opportunity to meet with potential employers. Dean says she's always wanted to be a nurse and saw the CNA training as a step in that direction. But as a single mom who was already going to college, she couldn't afford the training until she received a Healthcare Skills Alliance scholarship.

"If I hadn't had that I wouldn't have been able to do it at all," said Dean.

She hopes the job fair will help her land a CNA job so she can work in the healthcare field while she continues to work on her nursing degree.

"I want to go in to working as a CNA so I can get the experience necessary to be a better nurse," said Dean.

"Certified Nurse Aide is one of the most important jobs we have at The Pavilions," said Etienne. ""We're always looking for good people to fill those jobs."
