2000 Students Learn About Local Careers at MiCareerQuest Northwest 2023
May 22, 2023
2,000 ninth graders from 30 northern Michigan school districts learned about local career options at MiCareerQuest Northwest May 11 in Traverse City. The hands-on career exploration event featured 50 employers and more than 100 occupations in high-wage, high-demand industries including manufacturing, construction, agriculture, hospitality, healthcare, IT, human services, and more. The event was held at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center.
“Overall, it was a great event, said Tobias Dunsford, a student at Cadillac Innovation High School. “I was impressed with all the hands-on opportunities at the booths, including the medical stations.”
“MiCareerQuest was a cool way for students to learn and interact with different career opportunities that are available to them once they graduate from high school,” said Chas Ferrell, Cadillac High School Principal. “Students had the opportunity to ask questions to professionals, learn about the benefits of these careers, along with trying out the equipment used in those industries.”
“Munson Healthcare is proud to be the healthcare sponsor of MiCareerQuest,” said Gina Stein, Manager, Talent Acquisition Operations for Munson Healthcare. “Showcasing healthcare careers at this event creates excitement and plants the seeds for our future healthcare workers. We were able to show them some equipment and discuss careers they otherwise may not be aware of. There are so many exciting professions and the ability to make an impact in the lives of others.”
