May 18, 2022
2,000 ninth graders from 30 northern Michigan school districts learned about local career options at MiCareerQuest Northwest May 12 in Traverse City. The hands-on career exploration event featured 50 employers and more than 100 occupations in fields including manufacturing, construction, agriculture, hospitality, healthcare, IT, human services, and more. The event was held at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center.
“MiCareerQuest Northwest is an invaluable opportunity for area 9th graders to explore the fantastic array of career opportunities, apprenticeships, and educational options available right here in northern Michigan," said Jody Hansen, Investor Engagement Administrator at Traverse Connect. “It was fantastic to hear kids say, "I can picture myself doing this" as they interacted with employers and the hands-on activities. What a great resource put together by Networks Northwest!”
"It was a wonderful experience and it opened my eyes to a lot of different career opportunities," said Katie Sutton, a student at Cadillac Innovation High School.
“This is a great opportunity for students to be able to explore a variety of career fields as they begin to make their career choice,” said Tim Rigling, Director of Career and Technical Education at the Wexford-Missaukee ISD. “MiCareerQuest offers the opportunity to talk to professionals about these careers directly from the experts.”
The first MiCareerQuest Northwest was held in 2019. The event was cancelled in 2020 and held virtually in 2021.
