Community Recognition - Outstanding Service

Annie Shetler and Janie McNabb were named on the Traverse Business News 40 Under 40 list of those who are making an impact in the region. Shetler is a business consultant with the Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center of northwest Michigan, a program administrated by the Northwest Michigan Council of Governments. McNabb is the chief operating officer at Northwest Michigan Works!, the workforce development program, also administrated by Northwest Michigan Council of Governments.

With this annual award, the Traverse Business News recognizes people from Grand Traverse, Benzie, Leelanau and Kalkaska counties who have shown themselves to be leaders in their profession. Judges considered the leadership the nominee shows in his or her job or industry, and the impact that work has on our region. Each nominee’s level of community involvement and actionable forward momentum (i.e. What have they done recently?) were considered. All awardees were no older than 39 by the issue’s publication on September 1, 2013.

This year's judging committee was: Marguerite Cotto, Northwestern Michigan College; Laura Oblinger, Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce; Derek Bailey, 7th Legacy Consulting; Norm Plumstead, Honor State Bank; and Luke Haase, Traverse City Business News.

The Networks Northwest team did a great job to help the City of Charlevoix and Charlevoix Township collaborate in addressing housing challenges in our community. They facilitated dialogue with Planning Commissioners, community stakeholders, and municipal officials to develop a plan for cohesive zoning in areas of growth for our two governments. Further, they were able to pinpoint the challenges in each unit and propose changes that would be beneficial all around. Together, we believe we'll be better prepared for housing developments and job growth in our region. We look forward to working with them on future projects!
- Mark Haydlauff, City Manager, Charlevoix
