Local Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates Students Attend Legislative Day in Lansing

NORTHWEST, MI – Students in the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) program coordinated by Northwest Michigan Works! attended the JMG Legislative Day February 28 in Lansing. The event attracted over 125 students from across the state. While they were in Lansing, the students met with their legislators, networked with other JMG students, and toured the Capital.

The northern Michigan students attending the Legislative Day were Caleb St. John, a junior from Kingsley in the Automotive Technology Program at the TBAISD Career-Tech Center; Destiny Smith, a junior from Kingsley in the Automotive Technology Program at the TBAISD Career-Tech Center; Cassidy Baker, a senior from Cadillac  in the Agriscience Program at the Wexford-Missaukee Career Tech Center; Katlin Booms, a senior from Marion in the Agriscience Program at the Wexford-Missaukee Career Tech Center; Haley Curnow, a senior from East Jordan in the Char-Em ISD CTE Welding Program; and Gregory Legato, a senior from Pellston in the Char-Em ISD CTE Welding Program.

JMG helps Michigan's young adults graduate and make successful transitions to postsecondary education or meaningful employment. Northwest Michigan Works! coordinates JMG programs at the Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District, the Traverse Bay Area ISD Career-Tech Center, the Wexford-Missaukee Career Tech Center, and Out of School programs in Kalkaska and Manistee.

As the premier program of Youth Solutions, Inc., JMG equips young people with the skills needed to overcome barriers and ensure Michigan’s youth win in education, employment, and in life.
