Northern Michigan Employer Launches Multiple Apprenticeship Opportunities

BOYNE CITY, MI— A northern Michigan employer is launching five different US Department of Labor registered apprenticeship opportunities. The apprenticeships are being offered at Bulmann Dock & Lift in Boyne City through a partnership with Northwest Michigan Works! and are the most diverse apprenticeships ever offered by a single employer in northwest Lower Michigan. The five apprenticeship programs will be formally launched at an event Tuesday, November 16, from noon to 1:30 pm at Bulmann Dock & Lift, 175 Magnet Dr. in Boyne City. Job seekers, youth, and community partners from across northwest Lower Michigan are invited to attend the launch event and a talent tour to explore the benefits of registered apprenticeships, the company culture, and facilities. 

The event is part of the US Department of Labor National Apprenticeship Week and will include an overview of apprenticeships available at Bulmann Dock & Lift including office manager, sales technician, material coordinator, manufacturing technician and dock builder/installer. The dock builder/installer apprenticeship is the first-of-its-kind in the state. Each apprenticeship includes paid on the job training along with curriculum designed and provided by the employer. Apprentices selected will have an opportunity to earn, learn, and lead and receive a National US DOL credential once their program's requirements are achieved.

Registered apprenticeships are offered through the U.S. Department of Labor and are a proven training method for employers to build a talent pipeline of highly skilled, educated employees. Northwest Michigan Works! provides technical assistance and administrative support for registered apprenticeships, including development and implementation guidance.
