Asset Management

Asset Management is a strategic and systematic process of maintaining, upgrading, and operating physical assets cost-effectively.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) uses Asset Management to identify and evaluate road conditions, thereby applying resources where they are most needed to maintain roads and the transportation system in general.

Networks Northwest Community Development staff provide regional support for the program, which includes: administrative support, liaison activities between the counties and MDOT, training, scheduling of inventory times, data collection, and equipment handling. Data collection is coordinated with a County Road Commission employee, a representative from a local MDOT office, and Networks Northwest staff utilizing the PAvement Surface Evaluation Rating (PASER) system on all Federal-Aid eligible roads. The PASER system rates on a 1-10 linear scale, with 1 being poor and 10 excellent.

The Networks Northwest team did a great job to help the City of Charlevoix and Charlevoix Township collaborate in addressing housing challenges in our community. They facilitated dialogue with Planning Commissioners, community stakeholders, and municipal officials to develop a plan for cohesive zoning in areas of growth for our two governments. Further, they were able to pinpoint the challenges in each unit and propose changes that would be beneficial all around. Together, we believe we'll be better prepared for housing developments and job growth in our region. We look forward to working with them on future projects!
