Beaver Island Lighthouse School Students Attend Leadership Day in Lansing
Two students from the Beaver Island Lighthouse School (BILS) attended the Jobs for Michigan's Graduates State Leadership Day October 29 in Lansing. The event gave BILS seniors Alexis Gomez and Dominic Rose the opportunity to meet and network with other Jobs for Michigan's Graduates participants from around the state. Gomez and Rose also toured the capitol and met with Representative Triston Cole and Senator Wayne Schmidt. BILS teachers and Northwest Michigan Works! Youth Program staff members selected Gomez and Rose to participate in the Leadership Day based on their leadership skills, academics, and commitment to the school’s Career Association. Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates is part of a national program dedicated to preventing drop outs among at-risk young people and preparing them for jobs and post-secondary education. Northwest Michigan Works! Youth Advisor Dana Venhuizen and Youth Program Administrative Assistant Michelle Goetz Grahl attended the Leadership Day with Gomez and Rose.
