Dozens of job seekers and people looking for information about IT Careers turned out for the Northwest Michigan Works! IT Career Fair at the Hagerty Center in Traverse City.
The Career Fair featured more than 15 local employers who were recruiting qualified candidates for current open positions in: Network Administration, Web Development, Tech Support, Database Administration, and Software Development. There were also representatives from local colleges at the event with information about education and training programs, and breakout sessions provided additional information about IT careers.
"An event like this is great because it offers a lot of different types of IT careers in one spot," said Brian Kindt, a career fair attendee. "It lets you see where you fit in what they're looking for."
"It makes it very convenient," said Vicki Sanchez, a career fair attendee. "You just go table to table and talk to them and try to get a feel of what they're looking for."
Job seekers weren't the only ones who benefited from the Career Fair. It was also an efficient way for employers to meet a lot of potential employees.
"They all have an interest in IT and they know what they're getting into when they come here," said Mark Styles of Terrapin Networks. "It makes it very simple for us to navigate them through our business format."
"It's wonderful," said Jim Dyke, a career fair attendee. "I've talked to at least four or five companies that sounded like they were very interested in my abilities."
