2013-14 Student Video Challenge - Manufacturing

The Results Are In!

The judges have selected the video produced by students at Boyne City High School as the winner of the 2013-14 Student Video Challenge! The video produced by the Alpha team at the TBA Career Tech Center finished in second place.

A special thank you to all the northern Michigan manufacturers who participated by allowing the student teams to shoot video at their facilities. Those manufacturers are: ACAT Global, Britten, Inc., Coding Products, DCL, Grand Traverse Machine, Industrial Magnetics, Kalkaska Screw Products, Michigan Scientific, Petoskey Plastics, Precision Edge, Rec Boat Holdings, RJG, Skilled Manufacturing, and Trend Services. Thanks also to the Northwest Michigan Industrial Association.

The Student Video Challenge is a project of the Education Advisory Group of the Northwest Michigan Workforce Development Board and is sponsored by Northwestern Michigan College. Scroll down to see all the videos and photos of the first and second place teams.

 

First Place!

 

The Boyne City/Char-Em ISD team from Boyne City High School produced the video "Northern Michigan Manufacturing" for the Northwest Michigan Education Advisory Group's Student Video Challenge. The teams in the competition were asked to create videos to educate fellow students about careers in manufacturing and show what it's really like to work in manufacturing. The judges have selected this video as the winner of the 2014 Student Video Challenge!

 


Second Place!

The Alpha team from the TBA Career Tech Center produced the video "Manufacturing  and Technology, Engineering a Future" for the Northwest Michigan Education Advisory Group's Student Video Challenge. The teams in the competition were asked to create videos to educate fellow students about careers in manufacturing and show what it's really like to work in manufacturing. The judges have selected this video as second place of the 2014 Student Video Challenge!

The Bow Tie Productions team from Traverse City West Senior High produced the video "About Manufacturing Today."   The SJ Productions team from the Wexford/Missaukee Career Tech Center produced the video "Boatmaking Careers."

 


Why a Video Contest about Manufacturing?

The purpose of this contest is to show what it’s really like to work in manufacturing. Many people don’t realize how manufacturing has changed in the last twenty years and they think there are no jobs. But there really are! There are some great opportunities to have a rewarding, lifelong career with great pay. Participants produced one to three minute videos showcasing career opportunities in manufacturing. 

 

High school students from Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee, and Wexford counties were invited to participate. 

 

Prizes were awarded as follows:

1st Prize =$2000 awarded to school, $100 gift card for each student team member
2nd Prize = $1000 awarded to school, $75 gift card for each student team member

 

The Student Video Challenge is a project of the Education Advisory Group of the Northwest Michigan Workforce Development Board and is sponsored by Northwestern Michigan College.
