Providing housing choices to all residents in the regions continues to be a priority for much of Networks Northwest’s service area. Networks Northwest’s Regional Planning & Development Department works with local partners, both in the private and public sector, to ensure that the region’s workforce has access to safe, economical, and desirable housing. A Framework for Housing Choices in Northwest Michigan
Developed as part of the Framework for Our Future: A Regional Prosperity Plan for Northwest Michigan, it includes information that can serve as a compilation of best practices to help local decisionmakers and stakeholders who would like to address the issues identified in the Framework to meet their communities’ diverse housing needs. A variety of housing analyses and reports were developed for the Framework, providing context and data, and resources for communities.

Networks Northwest is holding a number of housing focused events to present data collected as part of the Framework for Our Future. Following the presentations of the County Housing Target Market Analyses in November 2014, follow-up meetings were held in Suttons Bay, Traverse City, and Petoskey to discuss strategies for creating housing choices throughout the region. Networks Northwest convenes the Housing Solutions Network, which works with housing stakeholders and communities to raise awareness of housing issues and programs. Activities include the development of resources for both the public and community leaders, including:
NWMHousingSearch.com, a housing search portal for renters and homebuyers The site features a searchable database of housing assistance programs, rentals, and homes for sale.
