Placemaking and Historic Preservation is the topic for upcoming workshops sponsored by the Northwest Michigan Council of Governments. The workshops will be held in Manistee, Traverse City, and Petoskey.

Speakers (both from MSHDA):

  • Brian D. Conway is the State Historic Preservation Officer.  Brian oversees various programs in the SHPO including, but not limited to, the certified local government program; cultural resources management and planning; and historic preservation tax credits.
  • Joe Borgstrom is the Director of the Downtown & Community Services Division for the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA). His division includes the Michigan Main Street Center and Pure Michigan Living units. During his career, Mr. Borgstrom has worked with over 80 communities across Michigan on a wide range of downtown, Brownfield and traditional economic development projects that have resulted in millions of dollars in new private investment and hundreds of new jobs.
