JMG Students Meet With Legislators in Lansing

Students from three northern Michigan school districts attended the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) Spring Leadership Day in Lansing. The students attending the event were Alex McLinden and Jeremy Gajeski from Casmen Acadamy in Manistee, Austin Drew and Levi Pepin from the Char-Em CTE welding program at East Jordan, and Dylan Bertram from Traverse City West High School and the Automotive Technology program at the TBA Career-Tech Center. While the students were in Lansing they had personal visits with Senators Curt VanderWall and Wayne Schmidt, Representatives Triston Cole and Jack O’Malley, and Representative Lee Chatfield’s staff. The students spoke freely with each of the legislators, sharing their JMG experiences and asking questions about a variety of topics including the progress of the auto insurance debate, our roads, and the future of Michigan.

JMG helps Michigan's young adults graduate and make successful transitions to postsecondary education or meaningful employment. Northwest Michigan Works! coordinates JMG programs at the Casmen Academy in Manistee, the Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District, the Traverse Bay Area ISD Career-Tech Center, the Wexford-Missaukee Career Tech Center, and Out of School programs in Kalkaska and Manistee.

As the premier program of Youth Solutions, Inc., JMG equips young people with the skills needed to overcome barriers and ensure Michigan’s youth win in education, employment, and in life. Operating across 208 Michigan cities, JMG works with nearly 3,000 young people annually.
