Local Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates Students Attend 2020 Legislative Day in Lansing


Students in the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) program coordinated by Northwest Michigan Works! attended the JMG Legislative Day February 28 in Lansing. The event attracted JMG students from across the state. While they were in Lansing, the students met with their legislators, heard from several speakers including the lieutenant governor, connected with other JMG students from around the state, and toured the capitol building.

The northern Michigan students attending the Legislative Day were:

Sophie Chadwick, a junior at Cadillac Innovation High School
Cody VanBrocklin, a sophomore at Cadillac High School
Alexia Serna, a senior from Cadillac and the Wexford-Missaukee Career-Tech Center
Jessey Abrom, a junior at CASMAN Academy in Manistee
Ben Krupa a senior from Harbor Springs and the Char-Em ISD CTE Welding Program
Liz Lantz, a senior from Harbor Springs who attends Crooked Tree High School
Andrew LeBlanc, a senior from Boyne Falls and the Char-Em ISD CTE Welding Program
Kaiden Larsen, a senior at Traverse City West High School and the TBAISD Automotive Program
Derek Rowland, a junior at Kingsley High School and the TBAISD Automotive Program
Ian Somerville, at Mancelona High School and the TBAISD Automotive Program

JMG’s mission is to equip young people with the skills to overcome barriers and succeed in education, employment, and in life. Northwest Michigan Works! coordinates JMG programs at Cadillac Public and Innovation High Schools, CASMAN Academy in Manistee, Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District, the Traverse Bay Area ISD Career-Tech Center, the Wexford-Missaukee Career-Tech Center, and Out of School programs in Cadillac, Kalkaska, Manistee, and Traverse City.
