A project designed to promote trails in northern Michigan has received the Governor’s Award for Innovative Tourism Collaboration. The Up North Trails Collaborative won in the category of Non-Traditional Partnerships for its upnorthtrails.org website and trail promotion efforts connected to the website.

Former Student Returns to Lighthouse School 24 Years After Graduation
In May of 2016 Dan Oberski had a chance to visit the Beaver Island Lighthouse School for the first time since he was a student there in 1992. Oberski is now an assistant principal at Traverse City West Senior High School. During his visit to Beaver Island he got to talk with graduating seniors about how the Lighthouse School changed his life.

Parsons Farm near Charlevoix has been owned by the same family since 1898 and is in the process of transitioning from the 4th to the 5th generation of the family. The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is helping with that transition and an expansion of the business. The work they're doing has earned Parsons Farm recognition as the SBDC Regional Best Small Business of the Year.

Job Seeker Starts Nursing Career With Help From Michigan Works
Malachi Hildebrand became familiar with Northwest Michigan Works! services by participating in the Summer Youth Employment Program. Hildebrand plans to pursue a career in nursing, and in November of 2015 he came to Michigan Works! in Manistee to enroll in a CNA training program at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility.

The National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) has elected Matt McCauley to serve on its board of directors. McCauley is the Director of Strategic Initiatives at Networks Northwest. He was elected at NADO’s annual business meeting October 27 in New Orleans.

Northwest Michigan Works! helped the Manistee County Medical Care Facility fill certified nurse aide (CNA) positions by recruiting candidates for a customized CNA training at the facility. Oldenburg Group Selected As Michigan Government Contractor of the Year
The Oldenburg Group has facilities in Iron River, Kingsford, and Ontonagon and does a lot of business with the U.S. Navy.
