The Grand Traverse Area Literacy Council depends on volunteers. Our small staff works to coordinate the time and talents of volunteers to meet the needs of adult learners, conduct trainings and special events, as well as administrative duties. All of our volunteers are the front line to fighting adult illiteracy.

Ways to Give
Grand Traverse Area Literacy Council (GTALC) is a tax-exempt, 501(c)3 charitable Michigan nonprofit organization and donations to GTALC are tax-deductible. You can help give the gift of literacy in a number of ways.
Honor a Friend by Donating to Literacy
Honor friends and family who say they need nothing. Instead of trying to come up with the perfect gift, celebrate their next birthday, holiday or anniversary by making a donation, in their name, to the Grand Traverse Area Literacy Council. We will send an acknowledgment of your gift in their honor.
Remember and honor your loved ones with a memorial donation and support the efforts of your local Literacy Council.
General Support Donations are critical to the financial health of the Grand Traverse Area Literacy Council. Through your donation you can help the organization continue to provide learning materials and free tutoring services to benefit the adult learners with literacy needs we serve.
So where does the money go?
Your gift to the Grand Traverse Area Literacy Council allows us to train and support volunteers tutors, to buy books and other materials for students, and to support our community literacy programs. When used to train and equip tutors, your financial support improves the quality of life for our students and their families, and touches people directly and indirectly across our community. Reading and speaking English are some of the most important skills needed to reach and achieve goals adult learners never thought possible. Invest in the future of our neighbors and the Grand Traverse community.
