About Volunteering

Training

In support of the volunteer positions, HelpLink provides individualized trainings. Training allows new volunteers to get to know others, the program, and the duties. Our volunteers are trained to help neighbors in need navigate our community’s many resources and connect with solutions--while respecting their dignity and building on their strengths. During training, Navigators learn to help neighbors identify needs, formulate a plan, expedite help, and provide support and encouragement.

Opportunity

HelpLink has multiple volunteer positions that adults may find appealing. Volunteering at the HelpLink office can be a wonderful opportunity for retirees and for college interns to learn about HelpLink’s many community partners.

Time & Attire

In Traverse City, volunteer shifts are three hours in duration (9:30-12:30 or 12:00-3:00) on either Tuesdays or Thursdays. Both Navigators and Navigator Advisors are asked to commit to at least one shift per month. Volunteers wear casual attire.
